Welding Procedure Welding Procedure Piping Classification

Introduction

This 5 days course focuses on imparting a comprehensive understanding of the methodology of Welding Procedure Qualifications and applications of various NDT methods as applied in welding inspections. The program covers a quick review of common welding processes, their merits and demerits, Procedure and Performance Qualifications; a step-by-step explanation for the preparation of WPS, PQR, and WPQ records.

As regards NDT, the objective of this course is to provide the knowledge and competence that an individual must possess to understand various NDT methods available, how to select the appropriate NDT methods to suit the requirement. No single NDT method will work for all flaw detection or measurement applications.

Each of the methods has advantages and disadvantages when compared to other methods. The scientific principles, common uses, and the advantages and disadvantages of some of the most often used NDT methods will be covered in the course. Emphasis will be placed on how to locate the discontinuities and how to interpret/evaluate the test results. The course covers both theory and the practical demonstrations of the various tests involved in Welding Procedure Qualifications and Applications of various NDT methods.

Objectives

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

    • To introduce participants to the purpose and methodology of Welding Qualifications.
    • Learn how to understand, interpret, and comply with ASME Section IX requirements
    • How to conduct Procedure and Welder Tests, and certification of welders.
    • To provide a step-by-step approach in the preparation of WPS, PQR, and WPQ records.
    • Re-certification of Welders and Welding Operators.
    • Understand the requirements of ASME sec. IX for Procedure Qualifications
    • Know the common NDT methods used in industry
    • The principle and Methodology of common NDT methods
    • Merits and demerits of NDT methods
    • Selecting the appropriate NDT methods
    • How to Calibrate equipment and conduct the NDT examinations, Understand Types of discontinuities
    • Detection, Interpretation, and evaluation of indications
    • Document the test results, Understand the requirements of ASME sec. V for NDT

Training Methodology

This is an interactive course. There will be open question and answer sessions, regular group exercises and activities, videos, case studies, and presentations on best practice. Participants will have the opportunity to share with the facilitator and other participants on what works well and not so well for them, as well as work on issues from their own organizations. The online course is conducted online using MS-Teams/ClickMeeting.
